Principal's Message

Welcome to the Nepean High School Learning Community.

Located in Ottawa West, Nepean High School is a hub of creative activity for over 1,200 students.  While our actual school building will soon be celebrating our 100th anniversary, different iterations of the NHS learning community have existed for more than a century providing an opportunity for students in our community to explore their secondary school education.

As a community high school, we are fortunate to celebrate our rich diversity. Our students are motivated, creative, energetic and committed to their studies, their school, and their community.

Our goal, as a learning community, is to nurture well-being and excellence in our students by challenging them with the best of the academic, artistic, athletic  and extracurricular worlds, while providing a supportive, safe and caring learning environment. All members of our learning community are encouraged to participate in all aspects of our school in order to facilitate our students’ journey through their secondary school education and to become well-rounded individuals who care about and understand our greater community.

As a staff, we truly believe that all our students can excel. We believe in working closely with our students,  our Parents/ Guardians, and community partners, to ensure we have a safe, caring, and educationally stimulating environment which fosters learning and a sense of belonging for all who walk through our doors. We continue to support our students in their pursuit of their excellence in their educational pathways and with wellness in mind.

Nepean High School is a place of learning and understanding. The OCDSB’s Indigenous, Equity and Human Rights Roadmap supports our growth as a community to recognize the inherent dignity of each member of our learning community and our engagement in anti-oppression and anti-racism endeavours.  As a learning community we are committed to fighting racism, bias and prejudice in all forms. Our students’ voices are integral in our growth. We encourage all members of our NHS learning  community to hold us accountable as we move forward with our commitment to all of our students.

Our NHS learning community is strongest when we listen and learn together.  Please feel free to connect with us as we enter the next century of our proud NHS learning community.

Sincerely,

Alan Johnson
