Important Information for eLearning Students
Posted on 06/24/2020

The OCDSB eLearning Summer School session runs June 30 - July 28. In Summer School we are covering more than a week’s worth of a 110-hour course every day. Students should expect to spend approximately 5-8 hours (depending on the course) on their eLearning class every weekday of this session except for July 1st which is the Canada Day holiday. Their time will be spent working through online course materials, participating in online discussions, participating in optional online meetings, and completing assignments. With the exception of some final evaluation tasks, students do not have to be online at a particular time each day.  While there will be daily due dates, students will have some flexibility to work on their eLearning course at the time of day that works best for them. Students are encouraged to make arrangements so that they are available to meet the tight timelines of their summer course.

OCDSB eLearning courses are facilitated by a teacher who will direct the timing of the course and be available to assist students by providing clarification and feedback on their learning. In some courses, teachers will likely also conduct some voluntary online sessions. At the end of the course, there will be a final evaluation which may include one or more of the following: oral or video presentation, student/teacher conference, online exam, project or assignment. Specific final evaluation details have not yet been finalized and will be communicated to students at the beginning of the course. Students will need to make themselves available at designated times for some final evaluation tasks (e.g. an oral presentation or student/teacher conference). Final evaluations are worth 30% of the course grade and are conducted on the last 2-3 days of the course.
