Acceptable Use Of Computers and Internet Technology Policy
As per
OCDSB policy, all students will be required to sign a user agreement, entitled
"Rules for the Computer Labs, Library Information Centre & Classroom
Computers". This agreement must be signed prior to the use of any computer
within the school. These rules are designed to protect students from losing
their work and from losing the right to use school computers. It is an offence
to copy programs that are protected by copyright.Please be aware that the Board policies regarding the use of computers within schools allows for monitoring of a student’s use of computers, including examining their storage area and current session usage. Nepean High School regularly examines students network areas for inappropriate file storage and also has the ability to examine students’ monitors whilst they are working. Students should be reminded that the computers they use at school are Board property and hence should not be considered to be private. They are for school use. Private files, e-mails, or conversations (Instant Messaging) should not be stored or accessed on such computers. Students will be held accountable for any inappropriate use of Board computers.
Users will not transmit, relay or receive information or materials that are threatening, racist, pornographic, or malicious, inappropriate and /or unlawful. Note that E-mail constitutes a legal document. Existing laws for libel and slander apply. E-mail is also subject to legal subpoena. (Board Procedure PR.622.IT)
