Dear Parents / Guardians of Nepean High School Students:
You are cordially invited to attend a very special Town Hall meeting at NHS on October 20, 2009, intended to give parents and concerned members of the community some fresh ideas on how to help teens make good choices in dealing with some of the social issues that accompany the high school years. Most teens make their way as constructive, contributing members of their community and also navigate adolescence well, with all of its challenges and choices. However, as teens become more independent, they all face difficult social decisions and do not always make the right choice, putting themselves and others at risk. As experienced educators will confirm, increased awareness by parents and other adults is crucial to helping students have a more positive and productive high school experience.
This session should be useful if you have thought about how you would handle challenging situations with your teen and wondered:
- What teenagers are doing in the local parks at 1 a.m. on a winter’s night?
- What risky behaviours local teens might be engaged in?
- Whether your teen is really sleeping over at a friend’s home as planned?
- What kinds of illegal substances are available in our community?
- How a small house party can quickly spiral out of control and what to do about it? more >>
